Super Singers to the first level

Super SingersThe search for the junior voice of the State by Vijay TV was on recently at Chennai; the King of reality shows in Tamil Nadu had the auditions for the Airtel Super Singer Junior for this year. One could witness many kids accompanied by their parents, finding their way through for the auditions, ready to stand for hours in the long queue early in the daybreak at Santhome. If keenly noticed, you will also notice of how prepared these people were, coming with their music tutors, lunch-packs and anything to stay all day long. The show aspires to identify the talents of tiny tots and the voice of the state that stands out among the rest.

The age group eligible were the kids of 6-14 years and the auditions were successfully conducted in Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Chennai. 15 contestants were selected each from Coimbatore and Tiruchi. The Jury for the prelims was none other than the Airtel super singers themselves: Nikhil Mathew, Anitha and Gautham. Whereas, in Chennai the response for the auditions was really high and so they had three additional judges. Despite the number being high, the performance also seemed to be better in Chennai and tiny tots from various other cities also came in to give their best shot. “I got through my Prelims in Tiruchi but I couldn’t qualify the other rounds, I didn’t want to give up and so here I am again in Chennai to give my auditions” claims an excited and enthusiastic Akshaya.

Super Singers“Since the age limit is vast, the children are judged based on their Shruthi and Thaalam and are asked to sing a Pallavi song,” articulates Nikhil Mathew. While there were a few children who just wanted to try their luck, the others were pretty serious about it and were ready to sing a song of any genre they were asked to.

One of the major drawbacks and a gaffe that a few kids did was to sing the latest songs, just because they liked it and failed to analyse the Shruthi and of how much the song will help them prove their singing ability and skills to the judges. The tots who are qualified to the first round will be further judged by the main jury.

The winner of this title will be honored with prize money of Rs.25 lakhs and this child icon will also gain recognition from the music industry. Looks like music lovers can expect an entertainment packed treat from Vijay TV in a few days and keep us all glued on!
