Vijay, the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has asked for a 15-day extension to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation for further questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case. According to agency sources, Vijay was originally summoned to appear on Tuesday (March 10, 2026) for another round of questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. However, the actor-turned-politician requested additional time before appearing before the agency. Vijay has also asked the CBI to record his statement in Chennai or another location within Tamil Nadu, instead of asking him to travel outside the State. His legal team reportedly submitted the request to the investigating officials for consideration. Sources said that CBI officials are currently reviewing the request. After examining the appeal, the agency is expected to decide whether to grant the extension and issue a fresh summons for a new date of questioning. The Karur stampede case has been under investigation following the tragic incident that caused panic and injuries during a public gathering. Authorities have been questioning several people to understand the events that led to the situation and to determine whether any safety lapses occurred. Officials said the investigation is continuing, and statements from key individuals are being recorded to gather more details about the incident. The CBI is expected to take further steps based on the findings of the inquiry.
