For many of us, Sunday would have begun with the songs from Rangoli followed by Shri Krishna. With the advent of cable channels, rangoli might have been removed from our Sunday itinerary, but I always wondered if there could be one programme that could give so much more music like rangoli. After ages, I’ve found Paadi Vilayadu, a programme that is as entertaining as our rangoli. This programme might be different from rangoli in many ways but songs that get us going are still the same.
Paadi Vilayadu is a programme that is aired by Jaya TV on Sunday’s morning at ten. Reasons are many to recommend this programme as a Sunday opener; the format of the game show, Srilekha Parthasarathy- the host, two musically inclined teams and icing on top of the cake, the music. This programme is one of its kinds as it accommodates more than 40 songs in one episode.
Two teams with four contestants each are called on to participate in the programme. The team walks in by singing a song that reflects their team spirit. In an episode when a team named Chennai participated, the team walked in my singing ‘Sorgame Endralum’. The teams are then introduced to the rounds. With a computerized screen displaying numbers from one to 20 playing the major role in the first two rounds, this game is more music than any other normal music show.
The first round is more or less like Antakshiri where the teams sing song whose starting letter is hidden behind a number on the screen. The second is round is more interesting as it involves, identifying background music, songs from video clip and a luck or pass card. The final round is guessing song based on clues. One negative aspect, if it can categorize as one is that there are many songs but the duration of the song is less. The teams get points even by singing two lines perfectly. If you like variety, then here it is , else you might be left incomplete.
Srilekha plays the role of the host to perfection. There are times when you feel she is really funny, but that still adds flavor to the episode. So here is another Sunday opener for you, Paadi Vilayadu, a fun way to begin your Sunday.
