Remember the honest cop who worked alongside Ganesh Venkatram in the just-released Kamal Haasan’s ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’? The encounter specialist is none other than Dr. Bharat Reddy, a noted cardiac surgeon who works at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad. Bharath, who studied medicine in Europe, had appeared in sundry roles in some Telugu films but none has made him as famous as his cop’s role in ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ has done.
With the success of ‘Unnaipol…’, Bharat Reddy has been signed up to play important roles in films to be directed by Chakri (director of ‘Unnaipol…’), Nandhini (who worked as assistant director with Maniratnam and Selvaraghavan) and a few other films. Talking about his stint in Kollywood, Reddy says that it was not by accident but by design that he chose to become an actor.
“I became a doctor because it was my mother’s ambition. I have become an actor because it had been my childhood dream to become an actor. I am confident that I can to justice to both my professions. If I get a meaty role, I’m not averse to doing negative roles either. I’m also open to playing a parallel hero’s role if the subject is good. I have now signed up five movies in Tamil and Telugu,” says an elated Bharath Reddy, who can speak fluently in Tamil, Hindi, English and Russian besides his mother tongue Telugu.
