Russian Court Jails Activist Sergei Udaltsov

A Russian court on Thursday (December 25, 2025) found pro-war activist Sergei Udaltsov guilty of justifying terrorism and sentenced him to six years in prison.

Udaltsov is the leader of the Left Front movement, which opposes President Vladimir Putin and has links with the Communist Party. He was arrested last year as part of the case against him.

According to authorities, the charges were related to statements and actions that they said supported terrorism. Udaltsov has denied the accusations and said the case was politically motivated.

The verdict has drawn attention to Russia’s crackdown on political activists and critics of the government. Human rights groups say such cases show the shrinking space for dissent in the country.
