New Year Tragedy at Switzerland Ski Resort

About 40 people were killed and 115 others were injured after a powerful explosion and fire broke out at the Le Constellation bar in the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland on New Year’s Eve. The incident took place in Valais Canton and caused panic among visitors at the popular tourist spot.

Police said many of the injured were in serious condition and were taken to hospitals in Sion and other nearby cities. Rescue teams rushed to the area immediately. Several helicopters and ambulances were used to help evacuate the injured and manage the emergency.

Following the incident, the Valais cantonal government declared a special situation so that more emergency resources could be deployed quickly.

Valais Canton police commander Frederic Gisler said efforts are underway to identify the victims and inform their families. Authorities have started an investigation to find out the cause of the explosion and fire. Police have clearly stated that the incident was not an attack.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin postponed his New Year’s address and expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. The tragedy has shocked the country and cast a shadow over New Year celebrations.
