Senior Taliban Official Takes Charge in India
A senior Taliban official, Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, has arrived in New Delhi to serve as the new Charge d’Affaires at Afghanistan’s Embassy in India. Earlier, he worked as the Director General of the First Political Department at Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry. He was also part of the Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s team during its visit to India in October last year.
His appointment comes as ties between India and Afghanistan are slowly getting better. Even though India has not officially recognized the Taliban government, both countries have increased diplomatic contact in recent months.
India continues to help the Afghan people through humanitarian aid. This support includes food, medicines, and other medical supplies. India has said this assistance is meant to help ordinary Afghans during difficult times.
Afghan consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad are already operating under Taliban-appointed diplomats. In addition, several senior Afghan delegations have visited India recently to discuss cooperation in trade, energy, and regional connectivity projects.
Overall, these steps show that India and Afghanistan are slowly rebuilding working relations, with a focus on practical cooperation and humanitarian support, while keeping official diplomatic ties limited and careful.
