UDF Wins Vizhinjam Ward in Close Civic Poll
The United Democratic Front (UDF) won two out of three wards where local body elections were earlier postponed due to the deaths of candidates. The results are seen as politically important, especially ahead of future elections in the state.
Apart from its victory in Vizhinjam, the UDF also won the Payikadam ward of Moothedam grama panchayat. These wins strengthened the UDF’s position in local bodies.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) managed to secure victory in the Onakkur 10th ward of Piravom Pampakuda grama panchayat in Ernakulam district, preventing a clean sweep by the UDF.
The most closely watched contest was in the Vizhinjam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, where the UDF candidate K.H. Sudheerkhan won by a narrow margin of just 83 votes. The close result highlighted the keen competition between the two major political fronts.
Political observers said the results reflect intense local-level contests and could influence strategies of both alliances in the coming months.
