Leaders Honored with Perarignar Anna, Ambedkar Awards
The Tamil Nadu government has announced the recipients of some important awards for 2025.
Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan has been selected for the Perarignar Anna Award, while VCK floor leader Sinthanai Selvan will receive the Annal Ambedkar Award. The awards will be presented by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tiruvalluvar Day, January 16. Each award comes with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a gold medal, and a citation.
The government praised Duraimurugan as a veteran of the Dravidian movement and a 10-time MLA. He was also noted for participating in the 1965 agitation against Hindi imposition.
Sinthanai Selvan was chosen for the Annal Ambedkar Award for his long-standing work in promoting constitutional values, social justice, and Dalit rights in public forums and in the Assembly.
Additionally, Advocate A. Arulmozhi of Dravidar Kazhagam was selected for the Periyar Award. She was recognized for her continued work on self-respect ideology, rationalist thinking, women’s rights, and social equality.
These awards celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to social justice, public service, and the promotion of Tamil culture and values.
