500 Street Dogs Poisoned in Telangana Villages
Allegations of a mass killing of street dogs have caused outrage in Telangana. According to reports, around 500 dogs were poisoned and killed in the past week in several villages. Activists say the killings were allegedly linked to promises made during the recent gram panchayat elections, reported news agency PTI.
An animal welfare activist, Adulapuram Goutham (35), filed a complaint on January 12, claiming that the dogs were systematically poisoned in villages including Bhavanipet, Palwancha, Faridpet, Wadi, and Bandarameshwarapally in Kamareddy district. He added that nearly 200 dogs were killed in the last two to three days alone.
Goutham and other activists have urged authorities to investigate the incident, hold those responsible accountable, and take steps to protect stray animals in the state. Animal welfare groups are also calling for stricter laws and monitoring to prevent such acts in the future.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among the public, highlighting the need for ethical treatment of animals and stronger enforcement against cruelty.
