Vijay Appears Before CBI in Stampede Case
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at its office in Delhi on Monday, January 19, for the second day of questioning. The inquiry is related to the stampede that took place in Karur district of Tamil Nadu in September last year during one of his political rallies.
According to sources, Vijay was earlier questioned by the CBI on January 12. During that session, investigators focused on issues such as delays in the programme, crowd management failures, and the organisational arrangements made for the Karur rally. The stampede had led to injuries and raised serious concerns about safety measures at large public gatherings.
The CBI had issued a summons to Vijay on January 6, asking him to appear before officials in connection with the case. The agency is trying to understand the sequence of events and fix responsibility for the lapses that led to the stampede.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are examining whether proper permissions were taken and adequate safety steps were in place during the event. The case has drawn wide attention as it involves a major public figure and questions about crowd control during political rallies.
