“Spain Train Crash Kills One, Injures 14”
A commuter train accident near Barcelona in Spain has left one person dead and 14 others injured, according to Spanish regional authorities. Three of the injured passengers are said to be in serious condition.
The accident occurred near the town of Gelida, close to Barcelona, after a retaining wall collapsed onto the railway tracks. The train crashed after hitting the debris on the tracks. Emergency services rushed to the scene and sent 11 ambulances to help the injured passengers.
Spain’s railway operator ADIF said that heavy rainfall in the area is believed to have caused the wall to collapse, leading to the accident. Rescue teams worked quickly to evacuate passengers and clear the tracks.
The incident comes just two days after another major train crash in southern Spain, which killed at least 42 people and injured many others. Emergency workers are still searching through the wreckage from that earlier disaster.
As a mark of respect for the victims, Spain is currently observing three days of national mourning. The recent accidents have raised serious concerns about railway safety and the impact of extreme weather conditions on transport infrastructure.
