India to Boost Creative Skills in Schools, Colleges

On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget in Parliament and highlighted a plan to boost India’s orange economy, which includes creative industries like animation, gaming, visual effects, and comics (AVGC). She noted that this sector is growing quickly and is expected to need nearly two million skilled professionals by 2030.

To support this growth, the government plans to set up content creation labs in about 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across India. These labs will give students practical, hands-on experience with AVGC tools and workflows, making content creation a core part of learning rather than just an extracurricular activity.

The goal is to train students in creative skills early, helping them prepare for jobs in the fast-growing AVGC industry and strengthen India’s creative economy for the future.
