TMC Leader Mukul Roy Passes Away at 71
Mukul Roy, senior leader of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), passed away in the early hours of Monday, February 23, 2026. He was 71 years old.
He had been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata and was undergoing treatment for multiple health issues for some time. According to his son, Subhrangshu Roy, he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and passed away at around 1:30 a.m. Family members were by his side at the time of his death.
Mukul Roy was one of the founding members of the Trinamool Congress and played a key role in building the party’s organisational structure in its early years. He was considered a trusted lieutenant of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and was known for his strong political network across West Bengal.
Over his long political career, Roy held several important positions. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and handled crucial responsibilities within the party. Known for his sharp political strategies and organisational skills, he was often described as a behind-the-scenes planner who helped the party expand its base in both urban and rural areas.
