Amit Shah Promotes Bharat Taxi Cooperative Initiative

Amit Shah, Union Minister for Cooperation, interacted with drivers, called “Saarthis”, of Bharat Taxi Cooperative in New Delhi.

In a video released on Monday, Mr Shah said that the Bharat Taxi Cooperative has been formed to empower taxi drivers by giving them ownership of their work. He explained that unlike private taxi companies, this cooperative model is designed to ensure that drivers receive the profits directly.

According to the minister, many drivers working with private app-based taxi services face challenges such as high commission charges and limited control over their earnings. The cooperative aims to reduce these problems by creating a system where drivers are members and stakeholders.

Mr Shah said that the main goal of the initiative is to make drivers self-reliant and financially secure. He added that the cooperative will work in the interest of drivers rather than focusing only on business profits.

He also highlighted that the platform is not only about driver welfare but also about passenger safety. By building a driver-owned system, the initiative seeks to create better trust, transparency, and service standards.

The Union Minister said the government is committed to supporting cooperative movements across sectors and believes that such models can provide fair opportunities and long-term benefits to workers.

The Bharat Taxi Cooperative, he said, is a step towards strengthening the cooperative sector while improving the livelihoods of taxi drivers in the country.
