Shopfloor Dreams to Career Milestones: Samsung Chennai Plant Shows How Local Talent Rises Through the Ranks
As Samsung marks 30 years in India, its Chennai plant in Sriperumbudur highlights inspiring stories of local employees advancing from shopfloor technicians to key associates, fueled by robust training and internal mobility programs.
Karthick N started as a Production Employee in the AC plant, facing routine challenges but embracing growth through new processes and programs like CLAS and CDP. “Every experience I learned made me progress,” he said, now thriving as an Associate in Indirect Procurement with renewed purpose: “I feel proud to work for Samsung. My work has meaning.”
Tamizh Selvi K joined in 2007 post-higher secondary, evolving from PBA team operations to System Stock management and R&D via Internal Job Posting (IJP). Earning an MBA while working, she notes, “If you have talent, commitment and a supportive work environment, opportunities will come,” crediting perseverance and leadership guidance.
Rajaram S, Associate in Utility-Mechanical Civil, began as a Technician and expanded into planning and team leadership. “The guidance from managers and the team gave me confidence,” he shared, gaining technical and personal growth through pivotal assignments that built decision-making maturity.
V Prabasan, Indirect Procurement Associate since the CRT TV line nearly two decades ago, credits Samsung’s culture for instilling discipline and innovation. He developed an automated HS Code Management System, transforming manual workflows and proving creativity flourishes beyond labs.
At the plant, Associates earn their role after 12-15 years, progressing through operator and technician levels with skill-building and assessments. Programs like Career Development Programme (CDP) and Career Level Assessment (CLAS), plus higher education support, enable upward mobility in procurement, utilities, and production.
These journeys emphasize steady progression via training, mentorship, and a culture encouraging role expansion. Common advice: stay curious, consistent, prioritize learning and safety, trust the process. For them, success means family security, confidence, vision, and inspiring the next generation. Samsung Chennai fosters careers “grown from within,” turning shopfloor dreams into milestones amid Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing rise.
