BJP got highest donations in 2024-25, over 10 times all other national parties combined: ADR

Donations to national parties increased by 161% in 2024-25 compared to the previous year. The ruling BJP received the most donations, getting more than ten times what all other major parties combined. According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), total donations above ₹20,000 reached ₹6,648.563 crore from 11,343 contributions in FY25.

The BJP alone received ₹6,074.015 crore through 5,522 donations, while the Congress got ₹517.394 crore from 2,501 donations. The gap between the BJP and other parties was huge—more than ten times. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) reported no donations above ₹20,000 for the 19th year in a row.

Overall donations rose by ₹4,104.285 crore compared to the previous fiscal year. The BJP’s donations jumped by 171%, reaching ₹6,074.015 crore. Congress donations increased by 84% to ₹517.394 crore.

Among other parties, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received ₹27.044 crore—a 244% increase—and the National People’s Party (NPEP) got ₹1.943 crore, a 1,313% increase.

Corporate donations made up most of the funding—₹6,128.787 crore or 92.18% of total contributions from 3,244 donations. Individual donors contributed ₹505.66 crore through 7,900 donations.

The BJP received the most corporate donations: ₹5,717.167 crore from 2,794 donations, more than 13 times what others got combined. It also got ₹345.94 crore from individual donors.

Top corporate donors included Prudent Electoral Trust, which donated ₹2,413.465 crore in total—most to the BJP. Progressive Electoral Trust donated ₹834.97 crore, and New Democratic Electoral Trust gave ₹155 crore. Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd donated ₹100 crore to the BJP, as did Rungta Sons Private Limited with ₹95 crore.

The report highlights the BJP’s dominance in political funding during 2024-25.
