Brazilian Cricketer Laura Cardoso Breaks Record with Nine Wickets

Gaborone, Botswana – On April 9, Brazil’s Laura Cardoso made history in women’s T20I cricket by taking nine wickets against Lesotho. This is the highest number of wickets ever taken in a single innings by any player in T20I history.

The match was part of the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament 2026. Cardoso, known for her fast bowling, delivered an outstanding performance. She took nine wickets for just four runs in three overs. This broke the previous record of eight wickets by Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey in men’s T20Is and surpassed Indonesia’s Rohmalia’s seven-wicket haul in women’s cricket.

Brazil’s batting also stood out. Roberta Avery scored 48 runs, and Monnike Machado remained unbeaten with 69 runs, helping Brazil reach a strong total of 202. Lesotho struggled to chase this target, falling short by 189 runs. Cardoso’s nine-wicket haul ended the innings with Lesotho scoring just 13 runs in six and a half overs.

This remarkable performance showed Brazil’s strength as a cricketing team. Their batting laid a solid foundation, and their bowling was relentless. Laura Cardoso’s record-breaking effort will be remembered as one of the greatest achievements in women’s cricket history.
