British PM and French President Host Virtual Summit on Strait of Hormuz

Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron are working together to organize an important virtual meeting with leaders from around 40 countries. The main aim of this meeting is to discuss how to safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz and make sure that ships can travel without danger.

This meeting comes at a time when the situation in the region is still tense. Leaders want to support the fragile ceasefire involving Iran and other parties. They hope that by working together, they can reduce tensions and bring more stability to the area.

During the discussions, countries will also focus on supporting the work of the International Maritime Organization. This organization is helping to improve the safety of ships and their crews in risky areas like the Strait of Hormuz.

There are also plans to create an international mission to help reopen and protect the strait. This mission will be defensive, meaning it will focus only on safety and protection, not on taking any aggressive action. It will be sent to the region only when the situation becomes safer.

Before the virtual summit, Starmer is expected to meet Macron in Paris for further discussions. The meeting will also include other important leaders, such as Friedrich Merz.

Overall, this global effort shows that many countries are working together to ensure safe shipping routes and bring peace and stability to an important part of the world.
