IPL 2026: R Ashwin says MI still feeling ‘fatigue; from India’s T20 WC title win
IPL 2026: R Ashwin Points Out Fatigue in Mumbai Indians After T20 World Cup Win
Mumbai Indians (MI), once a strong team, are currently ninth in IPL 2026 with only two points from five games. They started well by winning against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with six wickets but have lost four matches in a row since.
Their latest loss was a heavy seven-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. According to former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, some MI players might still be tired from India’s T20 World Cup victory. Players like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma were part of the winning squad.
Ashwin mentioned on his YouTube channel that this fatigue could be affecting MI’s performance. He noted that they’re struggling to bowl effectively now. Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is after the World Cup, scored 78 runs in the first match but hasn’t been able to repeat that form. He missed the last game due to a hamstring injury sustained against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah has not taken any wickets so far this season, marking his longest period without success in IPL. Ashwin recently criticized Hardik Pandya’s leadership after MI lost to RCB, calling it “very average.” He pointed out a mistake in handling Rajat Patidar and Markande during the match.
The Mumbai Indians team, led by Hardik Pandya, will face Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Monday.
