Push for Women’s Reservation Bill Without Conditions

The National Coalition for Women’s Reservation, a group made up of women’s organizations and leaders, has asked the government to pass the women’s reservation bill without any delays or conditions. They made this demand during a press conference in New Delhi on April 19, 2026.

The coalition said that the bill, which includes 33% reservation for women in legislatures, should be approved during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. They strongly opposed adding any conditions that could delay or block its implementation. According to them, gender justice should not be used for political reasons.

Annie Raja, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India, also spoke at the event. She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the government is not showing real commitment to passing the bill.

She explained that linking the women’s reservation bill to processes like delimitation and the Census has slowed down its progress. According to her, this has made it difficult for the bill to move forward.

The coalition urged the government to take immediate action and pass the bill without any further delays, so that women can get fair representation in the country’s political system.
