Manipur Group Calls for BJP Boycott Amid Shutdown
Amid ongoing violence and shutdowns in Manipur, a major civil society group has called for a boycott of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), which represents Meitei community organizations in the Imphal Valley, released a statement on Sunday (April 19, 2026). The group asked people not to attend any events, meetings, or public programs organized by the BJP or its leaders.
COCOMI said the boycott is a way to show public anger over the current situation in the state. The group believes that stronger action is needed to protect civilians and bring peace.
The committee also demanded answers from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. They questioned why the state government has not been able to stop attacks on civilians and control the violence.
For several days, Manipur has been facing unrest, with reports of clashes, fear among residents, and shutdowns affecting daily life. Shops, schools, and transport services have been disrupted in many areas.
People in the state are worried about their safety and are hoping for quick action from the government to restore peace and normal life.
