Tanzim Hasan Sakib Returns to Boost Bangladesh’s ODI Pace Attack

Dhaka [Bangladesh], April 21 (ANI): Bangladesh has strengthened its pace attack for the crucial third ODI against New Zealand by including Tanzim Hasan Sakib. The match will take place in Chattogram on Thursday.

Sakib, a 23-year-old fast bowler, missed the first two ODIs due to a back injury sustained during Pakistan’s series earlier this month. However, with the series tied at 1-1, Bangladesh has added him to its squad of 16 players for the decider.

His return comes after Bangladesh’s strong performance in the second ODI in Dhaka, where they defeated New Zealand. Nahid Rana was instrumental in the win with a five-wicket haul, limiting New Zealand to 198 runs. Only Nick Kelly provided resistance with a fighting 83-run partnership.

Chasing a low target, Bangladesh secured the win thanks to steady half-centuries from Tanzid Hasan (76) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (50).

Kelly later praised Rana’s bowling, highlighting his consistent pace, swing, and effective use of bounce as key factors in Bangladesh’s success.

Sakib has been a regular in Bangladesh’s white-ball teams since debuting against India in late 2023. He was the top fast bowler for Bangladesh during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, taking 11 wickets.

With Sakib now included, Bangladesh has additional pace options alongside Rana, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman as they aim to win the series.

The deciding third ODI will be played at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on April 23.
