Abhishek Credits Travis Head for Batting Success
Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma has revealed how teammate Travis Head has played a major role in shaping his aggressive batting style during the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Abhishek said he had been closely watching Travis Head’s performances for nearly one and a half years before they became teammates at Sunrisers Hyderabad. When Head joined the team, Abhishek was excited to learn directly from one of the world’s top T20 batters.
According to Abhishek, one of the first things he asked Head was about his batting mindset. Travis Head’s simple advice was clear: if the ball is in the right area or “slot,” attack it from the very first delivery.
This fearless and straightforward approach made a strong impression on Abhishek, who decided to apply the same mindset to his own batting. He said this strategy has helped him become more confident and explosive at the crease.
Abhishek also explained that playing alongside international stars in the IPL provides valuable learning opportunities. He views every IPL season as a chance to improve his skills by observing and learning from some of the best cricketers in the world.
His performances in IPL 2026 show the success of this new approach. In eight matches so far, Abhishek has scored 380 runs, including one century and three half-centuries.
With an outstanding strike rate of 212.29 and an average of 54.29, he has emerged as one of the tournament’s top performers. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer of the season, just behind young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
As Sunrisers Hyderabad prepare to face Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Abhishek’s aggressive batting will be crucial for his team’s hopes of success.
