‘We were 10-15 runs short’: LSG skipper Rishabh Pant following six-wicket defeat against MI

Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, said his team was around 10 to 15 runs short after their six-wicket defeat against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League match.

After the game, Pant explained that LSG had a good start and performed well with the bat, but he felt they did not fully capitalize on a batting-friendly pitch. According to him, the surface was ideal for a score between 220 and 230, and his team should have added a few more runs to put greater pressure on Mumbai.

Pant praised his players for batting with freedom and positive intent. However, he also admitted that Mumbai Indians’ bowlers understood the conditions well and managed to control the scoring during important stages of the innings.

Lucknow Super Giants posted a competitive total of 228 for 5, thanks to an excellent opening partnership and valuable contributions from Nicholas Pooran, Himmat Singh, and Aiden Markram. Their batting performance gave them hope of defending the total.

Despite this strong score, Mumbai Indians’ top-order batters dominated the chase. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton built a massive 143-run partnership, putting MI in complete control of the match.

Their aggressive and consistent batting helped Mumbai chase down the target comfortably in just 18.4 overs, securing an easy six-wicket victory.

Pant noted that LSG’s bowlers have generally been performing steadily, but in this match, the batting department’s inability to score extra runs proved costly.

With this win, Mumbai Indians improved their standing to ninth place on the points table with three victories and seven losses. Lucknow Super Giants remained at the bottom of the table with only two wins from seven matches, making their path to the playoffs increasingly difficult.
