Marie Wilson Presents Budget for Tamil Nadu Government

Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson will present the first State Budget of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, August 5, at 10 a.m. The budget is for the financial year 2026–27 and is expected to outline the government’s plans for the state’s economy, welfare programmes, and development projects.

This is the first full budget of the TVK government since it came to power under the leadership of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. According to reports, Udhayanidhi Stalin was involved in a case related to alleged offensive remarks directed at Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and a well-known film actor. The matter led to legal action, following which he was arrested and later released.

The arrest has triggered strong political reactions. Opposition leaders criticized the action, while supporters of the government defended the legal process. The incident has become a major political issue ahead of the budget session.

Despite the political developments, the Assembly is expected to proceed with the budget presentation as scheduled. Members of both the ruling party and the opposition are likely to take part in discussions on the state’s financial condition and the government’s policy decisions.
