Opposition MPs March in Protest Against Government Actions
Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) staged a protest march inside the Parliament complex on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, raising several issues and demanding answers from the Central Government. The protest took place during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament and drew the participation of leaders from several opposition parties.
The MPs demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah respond to allegations of police brutality against students during recent protests. They also asked the government to explain claims regarding the alleged mismanagement of donations collected for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. In addition, the opposition renewed its demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest march began at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Prerna Sthal inside the Parliament complex. From there, the MPs marched towards Makar Dwar while carrying placards and raising slogans against the government. The demonstration remained peaceful but attracted significant attention from lawmakers and the media.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge were among the prominent leaders who participated in the march. Several MPs from other opposition parties also joined the protest to express their support for the demands.
During the march, the protesters shouted slogans such as “Amit Shah jawaab do” (Amit Shah, answer us), calling on the Home Minister to respond to the issues raised by the opposition. They also raised political slogans criticizing the government and demanding greater accountability.
Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Amit Shah for not being present during parliamentary discussions on the issues raised by the opposition. He said senior ministers should attend Parliament and respond to questions from elected representatives, adding that regular participation in parliamentary debates is important for the functioning of democracy.
Rahul Gandhi also addressed the protest and said that leaders holding important constitutional positions should be accountable for decisions taken by the government. He referred to recent student protests over an alleged examination paper leak and said concerns raised by students should be properly addressed.
As part of the demonstration, opposition MPs placed donation boxes near Makar Dwar. According to the protesters, the boxes symbolized their allegations regarding the handling of donations meant for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Several MPs dropped cash into the boxes as a symbolic act to highlight their claims.
The protest was joined by leaders from different political parties, including Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose, and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji. Their participation showed support from a wide range of opposition parties on the issues being raised.
Throughout the march, the opposition emphasized its demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Leaders said the issue remains important and called on the Central Government to fulfil its earlier commitments.
The protest concluded near Makar Dwar, where MPs displayed a large banner carrying the slogan “Amit Shah jawaab do.” The demonstration ended peacefully, with opposition leaders stating that they would continue to raise these issues inside and outside Parliament until they receive what they described as satisfactory answers from the government.
The protest added to the political atmosphere during the Monsoon Session, where lawmakers from both the ruling party and the opposition are expected to continue debating several important national issues in the coming days.
