Rahul Gandhi Avoids Parliament Debate Over Student Event Row
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticised Rahul Gandhi for not taking part in a parliamentary debate, accusing him of engaging in what it described as “petty politics.” The remarks came after Rahul Gandhi’s proposed ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Prayagraj was cancelled due to legal and logistical reasons.
The event was planned to interact with students and discuss issues such as alleged examination paper leaks, recruitment concerns, and other challenges faced by young people. However, after the programme was cancelled, the BJP questioned Rahul Gandhi’s decision to stay away from Parliament instead of raising these issues during parliamentary discussions.
Tarun Chugh, the BJP’s National General Secretary, said that Parliament is the country’s highest democratic institution and that important public issues should be discussed there. He accused Rahul Gandhi of avoiding debate and claimed that the Congress party was unwilling to participate because it did not have convincing arguments to present.
Chugh also alleged that the Congress was trying to use student protests for political purposes instead of working towards practical solutions. According to him, the party was attempting to gain political support by highlighting student issues outside Parliament rather than engaging in formal discussions inside the House.
The BJP leader further criticised Rahul Gandhi for not giving enough attention to the problems faced by students in states such as Jharkhand, where protests over alleged examination irregularities have been taking place. He said that national leaders should actively support students by participating in parliamentary debates and helping to find solutions.
The BJP also accused the Congress of following double standards, claiming that the party raises issues publicly but avoids detailed discussions in Parliament. According to the BJP, such actions weaken constructive debate on matters affecting students and the public.
The Congress has consistently raised concerns over examination irregularities, paper leaks, and recruitment issues in different states, while the BJP maintains that these matters should be addressed through responsible political dialogue and discussions in Parliament.
The exchange of criticism has added to the ongoing political tensions between the BJP and the Congress. As both parties continue to target each other over student-related issues, education and recruitment reforms are expected to remain important topics in national politics.
