Sonia Praises Manmohan Singh’s Legacy

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi praised former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh following the Supreme Court’s decision clearing him in a coal allocation case. She highlighted his integrity and contrasted it with the operations of the current government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In an article, Gandhi criticized Modi for forgiving students who attacked him while ignoring his own harsh words against Singh. She called the attack on Singh’s reputation a “tragic chapter” in India’s political history, noting that a coordinated effort by various groups had failed to prove any wrongdoing.

Gandhi emphasized Singh’s contributions during his tenure, including economic growth, social reforms like the Right to Education and OBC reservations, and landmark policies such as the Forest Rights Act and MGNREGA. She also praised his leadership in negotiating the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal, which brought India global recognition.

The Supreme Court’s ruling, she said, vindicated Singh’s record, showing his time in office as a period of significant progress for India. Gandhi concluded by calling him a “quiet, gentle but most consequential Prime Minister,” whose legacy continues to shine despite the passing of time.
