Cummins Says Bangladesh Outplayed Australia
Australia lost a rare Test match to Bangladesh by nine wickets at Darwin’s Marrara Stadium. This was only their second defeat against Bangladesh and their first on home soil.
Skipper Pat Cummins admitted the loss was shocking but denied claims of underpreparation. He praised Bangladesh for their strong performance, saying they played “really well” throughout the game.
On day one, Australia won the toss and chose to bat but were quickly dismissed for 198. Hasan Mahmud took six wickets, including several key players. In response, Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored a century, helping them reach 426 in their first innings.
In the second innings, most Australian batters struggled again, except Cameron Green, who scored a century. Despite this, Australia fell short by nine wickets as Bangladesh needed only 57 runs to win, completing it in 14.2 overs with a day and a half remaining.
Cummins hinted at possible changes for the next Test but didn’t provide specifics. He praised Josh Hazlewood for his seven wickets, especially in the first innings, and lauded Green’s performance.
Overall, Cummins acknowledged that Bangladesh outplayed Australia in all aspects of the game, showing patience and discipline throughout.
