Suryakumar Questions Leadership Change

India batter Suryakumar Yadav has spoken about his surprise and disappointment after losing the T20I captaincy and being dropped from the Indian team following the country’s successful defence of the T20 World Cup.

The decision came as a surprise to many cricket fans because India had enjoyed a strong run under Suryakumar’s leadership. During his time as captain, India did not lose a T20I series and also achieved success in major tournaments.

Surprising Decision

Suryakumar said he found it difficult to understand why the change was made when the team’s results had been positive.

He scored only 218 runs in 21 T20Is in 2025. In 2026, he scored 484 runs in 14 matches, including two half-centuries.

Although he continued to contribute to the team, the numbers were below the level expected from one of India’s leading T20 batters.

Suryakumar is known for his aggressive style and ability to score quickly in difficult situations. Because of his reputation, his lack of consistent runs attracted considerable attention.

After being dropped, Suryakumar said he spent around one and a half months at home thinking about what had happened.
