Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Falls Short of First Duleep Trophy Hundred

Young Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi came very close to scoring his first century in the Duleep Trophy. The 15-year-old left-handed batter was dismissed for 92 runs during the semifinal against Central Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru on Monday.

Although he missed his century by only eight runs, Vaibhav produced an impressive innings and showed great maturity for his age.

Strong Comeback After Quiet Debut

Vaibhav had a difficult start to his Duleep Trophy campaign. In his debut match, he scored only eight runs.

However, he bounced back strongly in the semifinal. Instead of playing risky shots, he showed patience and waited for the right balls to attack.

Whenever the Central Zone bowlers delivered loose balls, Vaibhav quickly punished them by finding the boundaries.

He scored runs against bowlers including Aryan Pandey, Yash Thakur, Arshad Khan, Saransh Jain and Harsh Dubey.

Youngest Player to Score a Duleep Trophy Fifty

One of the biggest highlights of Vaibhav’s innings was his quick half-century.

He reached his fifty in just 42 balls at the age of 15 years and 157 days.

With this achievement, Vaibhav became the youngest player to score a fifty in Duleep Trophy history.

He broke the previous record held by Laxman Singh, who had scored the youngest Duleep Trophy fifty at the age of 16 years and 23 days in 1969.

This record makes Vaibhav’s performance even more special.

Second First-Class Fifty

The 92-run innings was Vaibhav’s second half-century in first-class cricket.

His first first-class fifty came during the previous Ranji Trophy season while playing for Bihar against Meghalaya. On that occasion, he reached his half-century in just 33 balls.

His latest performance against Central Zone shows that he is becoming more comfortable at the first-class level despite being only 15 years old.

A Promising Young Talent

Vaibhav has already attracted considerable attention because of his age and batting ability.

Playing first-class cricket at such a young age requires strong concentration and confidence. His ability to recover from a low score in his Duleep Trophy debut and then score 92 in the semifinal shows his ability to handle pressure.

Although he missed out on a century, his innings will be remembered for his excellent stroke play, patience and record-breaking half-century.

Vaibhav will now look to build on this performance and continue developing his game. With more experience at the domestic level, the young batter could become an important player for Bihar and Indian cricket in the future.
