Three Accused in Goa Nightclub Fire Surrender
The three main accused in the deadly Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire in Goa surrendered before a court on September 14, 2026. The surrender came two weeks after the Supreme Court rejected their appeal against an earlier order cancelling their bail.
The accused are Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, who own the nightclub, and their business partner Ajay Gupta. They had earlier been released on bail, but the Bombay High Court cancelled their bail on August 18, 2026, citing the seriousness of the case.
The three accused then approached the Supreme Court, asking it to overturn the High Court’s decision. However, the Supreme Court rejected their appeal and directed them to surrender within two weeks. They followed the court’s direction and appeared before the court on September 14.
The court accepted their surrender and issued remand orders. Their lawyer, Saumya Drago, also requested certain medical arrangements for the accused, citing their health conditions.
The court approved some of the medical requests but kept other requests pending. It directed the investigating officer to respond before making a decision on those matters.
25 People Died in Nightclub Fire
The fire at the nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, broke out on December 6, 2025. The incident became one of the state’s major tragedies, with 25 people losing their lives and many others suffering injuries.
The case has attracted significant attention because of the high number of deaths and the allegations made against those responsible for running the nightclub.
The chargesheet filed by investigators accuses the three men of several serious offences. These include culpable homicide, endangering human life, negligence involving fire, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
According to the chargesheet, the accused allegedly committed several acts and omissions that contributed to the tragic incident. Investigators claim that these actions resulted in the deaths of 25 people and caused severe suffering to their families.
The surrender of the three accused marks another important development in the case. With the accused now in custody following the court’s remand orders, the legal proceedings are expected to continue as investigators and the court examine the allegations and evidence connected to the nightclub fire.
