Madras High Court Bans Unauthorised Online Screening of Jailer 2

The Madras High Court on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, ordered websites and other digital platforms not to show or distribute the films Jailer 2 and Bail without permission from their producers. The court issued the order to protect the copyright of the two films and prevent their unauthorised online exhibition.

Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, is produced by Sun TV Network Limited, based in Chennai. Bail, featuring Shivarajkumar, is produced by KVN Productions LLP, based in Bengaluru. Both production companies approached the court through separate lawsuits, seeking protection for their copyrighted films.

Justice P.B. Balaji granted an interim injunction in favour of the two production companies. The order restricts websites and other digital platforms from exhibiting the films without authorisation from the copyright holders.

The production companies filed the cases to prevent their movies from being shown or distributed online in violation of copyright laws. Unauthorised online distribution can affect the rights of film producers, who invest significant amounts of money in making and releasing movies.

Sun TV Network’s counsel, Rahul Balaji, requested the court to provide a copy of the order at the earliest. He made the request because Jailer 2 was scheduled for release on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The court accepted the request for an early copy of the order. The injunction is intended to help the producers protect their films from unauthorised exhibition on digital platforms around the time of release.

The order highlights the importance of protecting film copyrights and preventing the unauthorised distribution of movies online.
