Delhi Police Restricts Flag-Waving March
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has closed Central Park in Connaught Place on October 16 and 17 ahead of the “Lehra Do Tiranga” march organised by Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 16, 2026.
Delhi Police has urged protesters and members of the public to avoid gathering in Connaught Place and nearby areas. According to the information provided, restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The measures are intended to prevent unauthorised gatherings and maintain public safety.
However, a small group of selected individuals will be allowed to gather at a designated location to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem. Police have asked the public to follow the restrictions and avoid areas where the event could lead to crowding.
Abhijeet Dipke has appealed to young people, those describing themselves as patriots, and political parties to participate in the planned march. The event was announced after CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested for allegedly entering Jantar Mantar with the national flag early on Tuesday morning.
The Aam Aadmi Party has expressed support for the planned event. The march has drawn attention because of the police restrictions and the limited number of people permitted to take part in the flag-waving activity.
Police have advised residents and visitors to stay away from the gathering areas, citing security and public safety concerns. People visiting Connaught Place during the two-day closure are advised to follow official instructions and cooperate with the authorities.
