Josh Simmons ordered out of team meeting by Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Josh Simmons was asked to leave a team meeting by head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes after an incident on Wednesday. The situation happened one day before Simmons was placed on injured reserve because of a back injury.
Simmons, who was selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, was attending an offensive team meeting with his teammates. During the meeting, he was sitting with his feet raised. Coach Andy Reid asked him to lower his feet, but Simmons explained that he was experiencing pain in his back and hip.
Reid suggested that Simmons visit the team’s medical staff to receive treatment. However, the discussion continued and interrupted the meeting. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes then supported the coach’s instruction and told Simmons to leave the meeting and get medical attention.
Simmons left the room but remained inside the team’s facility. Later that day, he reportedly apologized to Reid and the team’s leaders. He accepted that he could have handled the situation better.
Simmons did not take part in Wednesday’s practice. The team’s injury report listed his absence as related to his back and a personal matter rather than an official injury designation at that time.
The following day, the Chiefs placed Simmons on injured reserve because of a bulging or herniated disc in his lower back. The move meant he would be unavailable to play while dealing with the injury.
The incident attracted attention because Simmons is a young player who joined the Chiefs with high expectations after being selected in the first round. His health and recovery will be important as he works to return to the field and continue his professional career.
