India Announces $500 Million Credit Line for Guyana
India has announced a $500 million credit line to support development projects in Guyana, including road construction, healthcare and defence. The announcement was made during a meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali in Antigua and Barbuda.
The meeting focused on strengthening the relationship between India and Guyana and expanding cooperation in several important sectors. Both sides discussed opportunities in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, digital technology and capacity building.
India has already supported Guyana through various development projects. The newly announced credit line is expected to provide further financial assistance and help the country improve its infrastructure and public services.
During the visit, India and Guyana also signed three agreements aimed at strengthening their development partnership. One agreement focuses on supplying and installing manufacturing projects for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). This initiative is expected to support small businesses and encourage local economic growth.
Another agreement provides grant assistance for Quick Impact Projects. These projects are designed to address local development needs and deliver benefits to communities within a shorter period.
The agreements reflect India’s continued efforts to support Guyana’s development through financial assistance, technical cooperation and infrastructure investment.
The partnership between the two countries is expected to grow further as they continue working together in areas of mutual interest. The latest announcement highlights India’s commitment to strengthening its international partnerships and supporting development in Guyana.
