Jason Sanjay: Tamil Cinema’s Rising Young Filmmaker
Tamil cinema’s next big talent isn’t just about star power—it’s about talent
behind the camera. Thalapathy Vijay’s son, Jason Sanjay, is making a name for
himself as a filmmaker at just 25. Rumor has it he already has several offers
for his second film, even before finishing his first. Directors are also offering
him acting roles, but Jason is focused: no new commitments until his debut film
‘Sigma’ releases, and no plans to act as a hero anytime soon.
Unlike many star kids, Jason isn’t chasing the spotlight. While his father
Vijay has become a mass hero with hits like ‘GOAT’ and ‘Leo’, Jason chose
directing early on. After schooling in Chennai, he went abroad for a Film
Production Diploma at Toronto Film School and a BA (Hons) in Screenwriting
from London. He even turned down acting offers in 2023 to focus on his craft,
releasing short films that showed his storytelling skills.
His debut, ‘Sigma’, is a gritty crime drama starring Sundeep Kishan. The film is
about greed, ambition, and survival, as hinted by the first-look poster showing
Sundeep on a pile of cash. Produced by Lyca Productions (with a Telugu version
by Mazaka), the movie has music by Thaman S, editing by Praveen KL, and began
shooting in July 2025 in Salem. Sundeep, fresh from films like ‘Raayan’ and
‘Captain Miller’, praised Jason’s fresh vision on set. Pre-production ended
late last year, and now that filming is underway, ‘Sigma’ is shaping up to be
one of 2025’s most anticipated Tamil films.
