Classic Spaghetti and Meatballs with Tomato Sauce
A tasty tomato sauce full of flavor is perfect for spaghetti and meatballs. This classic dish is great for a quick weeknight dinner and also works well for cooking in batches.
Ingredients:
For the sauce:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 brown onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 tsp dried mixed herbs
400g tin tomatoes
500ml (18 fl oz) vegetable or beef stock (from a cube)
400g (14 oz) dried spaghetti
Salt and pepper
For the meatballs:
400g (14 oz) beef mince
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
½ tsp dried mixed herbs
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
Method:
Heat a large saucepan over medium heat and add olive oil. Add the onion and cook gently for 4–5 minutes until soft and translucent.
Add the garlic and cook for 2 more minutes until fragrant. Then add dried herbs, tomatoes, and stock. Bring to a simmer, reduce the heat, and let it cook gently while you make the meatballs.
To make the meatballs, mix the beef, garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper. Wet your hands and roll the mixture into about 20 balls.
Heat a frying pan over medium heat with olive oil. Fry the meatballs on all sides until golden brown, being careful not to burn them. Do this in batches if needed.
Transfer the cooked meatballs into the simmering tomato sauce. Let everything simmer together for 10 minutes.
Drain the spaghetti and add it to the sauce with the meatballs. Mix well.
Serve hot and enjoy!
