Delicious Peshawari Chicken Biryani for Special Occasions

If you like biryani, you will love this Peshawari Chicken Biryani. It is great for family meals and special occasions.

Ingredients:

400 g Chicken, cut into pieces

½ cup Yogurt (Dahi)

1 tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste

1 tsp Red Chilli Powder

½ tsp Turmeric (Haldi)

1 tsp Garam Masala

1 tbsp Biryani Masala

Salt, to taste

1 ½ cup Rice

2–3 Cloves

1 Bay Leaf

1-inch Cinnamon Stick

2–3 Cardamom Pods (Elaichi)

½ cup Sliced Onions

½ cup Chopped Tomatoes

Oil, as needed

Water, as needed

Saffron, for garnish

Kewra Water, for flavour

How to Make Peshawari Chicken Biryani:

Wash the rice well and soak it in water for 20–30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

For the marinade, mix chicken, yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, biryani masala, garam masala, red chilli powder, and salt in a bowl. Keep it in the refrigerator for a while.

Boil water in a kadhai or pot, add the soaked rice, bay leaf, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick, and salt. Cook the rice until it is half-cooked.

In a heavy-bottomed pot, place a layer of marinated chicken, then add a layer of partially cooked rice. Top with tomatoes, onions, and coriander leaves, drizzle some oil, and repeat the layers until the pot is full. Add saffron strands or kewra water for extra flavour.

Cover the pot with aluminium foil and cook on low flame for 40–45 minutes.
