Nilgiris Bans Poultry Entry Amid Kerala Avian Flu

The Nilgiris district administration has started monitoring the movement of poultry and poultry products into the district. Entry from Kerala has been temporarily stopped due to an avian flu outbreak in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.

In a press release, the administration said that teams from the Department of Animal Husbandry will be stationed at key points. These teams will include a veterinary assistant surgeon, veterinary inspector, and other staff members.

Checkposts will be set up at seven locations on the Kerala border and one at Kakkanallah, which borders Karnataka. All poultry products entering the district will be checked, and poultry from Kerala will not be allowed into Nilgiris until the situation is under control.

The move is aimed at preventing the spread of avian flu and keeping poultry in the district safe.
