Two Healthcare Workers Treated for Suspected Nipah
Two healthcare workers in Barasat city, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, are undergoing treatment after being suspected of Nipah virus infection, officials said on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The cases were detected on Sunday night, January 11, 2026, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kalyani, located in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
West Bengal Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty said, “The patients are under treatment and observation. Contact-tracing and treatment plans have already been implemented.”
Both healthcare workers are employed at the hospital where they are receiving treatment, although officials have not yet revealed the name of the facility. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread and ensure proper medical care.
This development comes as a reminder of the need for strict safety measures in healthcare settings to protect staff and the public from dangerous infections like Nipah virus.
