Urban Indians Struggle to Eat Enough Protein

New Delhi: A recent survey shows that nearly 60 per cent of urban Indians do not eat protein-rich foods every day, pointing to a major nutrition gap even though many people are becoming more health-conscious.

The nationwide survey was conducted by LocalCircles in collaboration with Country Delight. It collected responses from over 2.07 lakh people living in 25 major cities and urban districts across India.

The survey found that only 4 out of 10 urban Indians regularly include protein-rich foods in their daily meals. These foods include lentils, eggs, milk, paneer, fish, and nuts.

Experts say that protein is an important part of a healthy diet, as it helps in building muscles, maintaining energy levels, and supporting overall growth and immunity. The low daily consumption of protein among city residents is a cause for concern.

The survey also indicates that while many urban Indians are aware of health and fitness, convenience, cost, and lifestyle choices often prevent them from eating a balanced diet. Nutritionists recommend including a mix of protein sources in meals every day to maintain good health and prevent deficiencies.

This study highlights the need for greater awareness and practical steps to help urban Indians make protein a regular part of their diet.
