WHO Report Shows Global Gap in Genetic Research
A new global study by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that more than 80% of genetic research on diseases is done in high-income countries, while less than 5% takes place in low- and middle-income countries.
Between 1990 and 2024, over 6,500 genetic clinical studies were registered worldwide through the WHO’s International Clinical Trials Registry Platform. The number of studies increased sharply after 2010, thanks to cheaper and faster DNA sequencing technologies and wider use of these methods.
