Yoga halves opioid withdrawal time, finds NIMHANS study

A randomised clinical trial conducted by researchers at NIMHANS has found that adding a short yoga program to the usual medical treatment for opioid dependence can help patients recover from withdrawal symptoms almost twice as fast.

The study, published in JAMA Psychiatry on Wednesday, is one of the first controlled trials to look at the effect of yoga-based interventions for people with opioid use disorder.

Researchers say that combining yoga with standard medical care could make treatment more effective and help patients stabilize quicker, improving recovery outcomes.

This study highlights the potential benefits of yoga as a supportive therapy for people struggling with opioid addiction, offering a simple and accessible approach alongside conventional treatment.
