5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Felt in Jammu Kashmir

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was felt in Jammu and Kashmir early today. The tremors were reported around 2.44 AM, according to officials.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in Tajikistan, but the tremors were strong enough to be felt in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department, said the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 110 kilometres inside the earth’s crust.

The Meteorological Department said that while people felt the shaking, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported from any area so far.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, and residents have been advised to remain calm, as there is no immediate danger reported.
