Aakash Chopra on Abhishek Nayar’s First Season as KKR Coach

New Delhi, March 26 (ANI): Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, recently spoke about Abhishek Nayar’s first season as head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2026. This is Nayar’s biggest leadership role so far, and he faces significant challenges ahead.

While Nayar has experience as an assistant coach and batting coach, leading a team like KKR in the IPL is much harder. Chopra also raised concerns about captain Ajinkya Rahane, who wasn’t the original choice for the role. Rahane was given the captaincy because no one else was available after Shreyas Iyer left for Punjab Kings. This could be a problem since Rahane may not have strong support from outside the team.

Chopra mentioned that KKR needs to use smart strategies to succeed, especially with their bowling attack looking weak. Last season, Rahane performed well, scoring 390 runs in 12 innings, but he batted at number three throughout the IPL.

The IPL is set to begin on March 28. The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opener. KKR’s campaign will start with a big match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 29. (ANI)
