AIADMK, BJP Near Deal for Assembly Seats
Chennai: The ruling AIADMK and its ally BJP are moving closer to finalising a seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Sources say the BJP is likely to get 29 seats in the proposed deal.
While formal talks between parties in the AIADMK-led NDA have not yet officially started, insiders from both AIADMK and BJP revealed that the main framework of the seat-sharing agreement has already been worked out.
According to the plan, BJP would contest 29 seats, TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK would get nine seats, and PMK would be allotted 18 seats. Smaller allies in the coalition are expected to receive one or two seats each, depending on negotiations.
This arrangement is seen as an effort to strengthen the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu and avoid conflicts among allies, giving each party a clear share of constituencies to contest. Political analysts say that such pre-poll alliances and seat-sharing agreements are crucial in maximizing electoral prospects and consolidating votes.
With the assembly polls approaching, finalising the seat-sharing deal is a key step for the AIADMK-led coalition to present a united front against rival parties, especially the DMK and its allies. Once the agreement is formally announced, parties will begin campaigning in their allotted constituencies, aiming to secure a majority in the state assembly.
