Albie Morkel’s Family Rivalry Ahead of T20

Before South Africa’s last Group D match against the United Arab Emirates, South Africa’s consultant Albie Morkel made the press conference fun with some jokes.

Reporters asked if he shares coaching tips with his younger brother, Morne Morkel, who is the bowling coach for India. Albie first looked serious but then smiled and said jokingly, “No, we don’t talk to each other,” which made everyone laugh.

He added that their mother has it even harder. “My mother is more worried than us. She doesn’t know who to support — India or South Africa,” he said, making the room laugh again.

Having two brothers on rival teams makes the tournament more interesting. Albie is with South Africa, while Morne coaches India’s bowlers, creating a friendly family rivalry.

Even with the jokes, South Africa is focused on their match against the UAE. The team wants to play well and finish the group stage strongly before moving to the next round.
