Amit Shah to Chair NCORD Anti-Drug Meet

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 9th apex-level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) this evening. The meeting aims to review and strengthen India’s efforts to fight the drug problem across the country.

Senior officials from various Union ministries and departments, representatives of state governments, and officers from drug law enforcement agencies will take part in the meeting. All key stakeholders involved in tackling drug-related crimes are expected to attend.

The discussions will focus on a “whole-of-government” approach, where central and state agencies work together to break drug networks and criminal cartels. Special attention will be given to challenges posed by the dark net, which is increasingly used for illegal drug trade.

The meeting will also look at the need for 360-degree investigations, meaning deep and coordinated probes into drug cases, from production to distribution. Another key topic will be preventing the misuse of precursor chemicals, which are often used to make illegal drugs.

The NCORD platform is meant to improve coordination among agencies and ensure stronger action against drug trafficking and substance abuse in India.
